This course introduces high school and early college students to the foundations of research and scientific thinking. The course guides learners through choosing a research topic, developing clear research questions, and designing a simple research plan.
Students will explore different types of research such as surveys, experiments, observational studies, and public data analysis. They will also learn essential research ethics, including avoiding plagiarism, collecting data responsibly, and reporting results honestly.
The course provides practical skills in survey design, data collection, and basic data analysis, including calculating averages, percentages, and creating simple charts and graphs. By the end of the course, students will gain experience organizing data, interpreting trends, and communicating their findings effectively.
Finally, learners will develop presentation skills and learn how to structure a simple research report including introduction, methods, results, conclusion, and references. Through guided activities, students will complete a short research plan, design a survey, and create visual data summaries, helping them build confidence as young researchers.
